Today at the bellydance studio we did a workshop with a Brazilian healer, Aparecida who lives in California. see: www.bodyprayer.blogspot.com/
She said, the age of women is coming and we will be the ones who will heal the earth, which is in the midst of destruction, with our powerful energy. And how do we do this? Dancing bellydance ! Then she talked about the serpent, the kundalini force, being coiled up at the bottom of our spine, which can be awakened by shimmying, and then will start to rise. Then she turned off the light, put on meditative bellydance music, we closed our eyes, and for the first time in my life, I could actually feel the serpent in it's coiled up state ! And then it started stirring and went in a spiral up my spine and my whole body started shaking and trembling and the shimmies moved up to my chest, and my hands started doing these beautiful movements... Aparecida said:"Feel that the air is your lover", and I did.... !
And she talked about the story of the Indian Goddesses Durga and Kali fighting the demons, when the Gods were not able to conquer them all, and how we have the energy of these Goddesses inside us...
This workshop brought back memories from the Seventies, and I found that all this is still very much alive ! And now, what I long sensed has become a certainty: bellydance is a celebration of our own energy, the magic of being a woman... ;) In the end when we shared our feelings, some girls said they felt grateful for being born a woman.
